2012

December 31, 2011

Dear Family and Friends,

Jesus said, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

2011 has come to a close and now we look forward to 2012. For some of us it’s been a rough year. Some of us have had health issues, some have taken major pay cuts, while expenses have sky rocketed. We’ve lost love ones and new babies have come along. Both good and bad but with most the bad far passed the good. So what does God tell us to do?

In my life the giving issue has always come to the front when any trouble occurs. He always tells me to give more, to give out of my need. Give more love, give more understanding, give more grace. Why? Because I need these things in my life.

Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you give it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38

But by far the hardest to give is money especially when you don’t have it. Now I’m not talking about the tithe. For Norman and I the tithe is a law written in our hearts. The first 10% goes to our local church. I’m talking about over and above. Support other ministries that you know are doing what God wants them to do. Support the missionaries, the street evangelist and give to the poor.

At the beginning of December my granddaughter was standing in a check out line at the grocery store. The lady in the front of her began to put items back because she didn’t have the money to pay for them. Becca, my granddaughter, told the cashier to total the items and she paid the remainder ($30). Becca had just lost her part time job but she had been taught the principals of giving from her parents for years. In particular that action had been told to her when she was about 12 years old, by our friend Pastor Frank Gresham. The lady was so blessed and Becca was so excited that she was able to give.

Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:17-19

Let us all make an effort to turn 2012 around for the good. Become a fragrant offering.

Many Blessings and Much Love to You and Yours,
